Junayd al-Baghdadi is one of the most renowned and influential mystics in Islamic history, playing a pivotal role in shaping the mystical perspectives and spiritual teachings of Islam. Among his key practical teachings are eight essential principles of conduct, which include: steadfastness in ablution, constancy in remembrance, persistence in solitude, continuity in fasting, perseverance in silence, the negation of thoughts, maintaining a heart connected to the master (al-shaykh), and contentment with divine decree, avoiding protest. These principles form the foundation of spiritual progress and the practical theology of Islamic mysticism, having been highly regarded across various mystical orders and traditions. Steadfastness in ablution and remembrance represents the purification of both the outer and inner self, marking the beginning of the mystical path. The principles of persistence in solitude, coupled with honesty and sincerity, fasting, silence, and the negation of thoughts, are crucial for overcoming the ego and resisting the influence of Satan. The final two principles—the connection of the heart to the master and contentment with divine decree—are foundational to the path. They address any shortcomings in the practice of solitude and open the seeker’s heart to divine grace, mercy, and illumination. Together, these principles make the seeker eligible for the manifestations of divine names and attributes. To date, no independent research has fully explored these principles. Therefore, this study, utilizing library research and mystical sources through a descriptive-analytical approach, aims to elucidate and analyze these eight principles. It underscores their significance in freeing the seeker from the shackles of ego and Satan, achieving spiritual perfection, and attaining the station of divine proximity.
